United, we need your support in 2023

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

We begin the new year with excellent news from the Atlanta Police Department:  Crime in Buckhead decreased by 14% in 2022.  Although crime throughout our city is still too high, we are making progress, especially in Buckhead.

We appreciate Mayor Dickens declaring that public safety is his number one priority and will continue to work with him, APS, the governor, and all other state and local officials to build on the success from his first year.  See below for further details on our progress.

The 2023 General Assembly is now underway.  We expect the Buckhead City issue to be debated.  We will be calling on you to reach out to your state representative and state senator, including Lt. Governor Burt Jones and others, to let them know that breaking apart our city is bad for Atlanta, bad for Buckhead residents, and bad for the State of Georgia.

We will follow up with you regarding the status of any activity and send along key facts and talking points.

In the meantime, please let us know if you would like a yard sign delivered to your home.

Sincerely,

Linda Klein & Edward Lindsey
Co-Chairs
Committee for a United Atlanta

New Poll Shows Strong Opposition to a Buckhead City and Impressive Job Approval for Mayor Andre Dickens

A poll this month by 20-20 Insight showed 61% of Buckhead residents oppose creating a Buckhead City.  Only 34% supported a new city.

Further, it showed that Mayor Dickens has a high job approval rating across the city.  69% of Atlanta voters rate Dickens as “excellent or good.”  17% say he’s done a “fair” job, with only 7% saying he’s done a poor job so far.

The poll has only a 3.7% margin of error for the Buckhead section.

Peter Aman: We Want People to Not Only Be Safe, But to Feel Safe

A big thanks to Peter Aman, the APD Chief Administrative Officer, for taking the time to speak to members of the Buckhead Coalition’s public safety committee.

Peter reinforced the advancements made by the APD and how the force is becoming best in class.

Urbanize Atlanta: Atlanta Nabs No. 50 Spot on New Ranking of World’s Best Cities

Of the world’s roughly 10,000 cities, Atlanta ranks in the top .5 percent. How’s that for billboard material?

The more sobering news: ATL isn’t sniffing the top-city slot in its own country.

That’s according to Resonance Consultancy, a Vancouver-based global consulting firm that just released its 2023 World’s Best Cities Report. It ranks Atlanta at No. 50, summarizing the current state of things here as: “Ambitious and dripping with history, ATL is creating its future mid-flight.”
